So what would you be happy with this season......

Personally I will be happy if we are challenging for the title for the whole season, even if we don't end up winning it, another season like last (though hopefully with a bit more entertainment) will do for me!

With the strides being made at the club we need to be looking at promotion in the next couple of seasons, I feel that we are making great progress on the park now and am hopeful that AM has put together a squad capable of challenging for the title.

I agree that we should be challenging for the title right from the off and throughout the whole season, but in the bigger scheme of things I think I’d be happy with another playoff place. Beating Livingston to the title will be a hard task for any team in the division, but if there is a team that can do it, it should be us. I’d like to see us have a good crack at the challenge cup too; the draw hasn’t been kind to us there, but if we can somehow squeeze past Dundee who knows what the next round would bring.

We have to be aiming for top spot. The squad is significantly stronger with some better players, more cover and a better balance. Livi are the favourites but there is no reason we can't aim for the championship. I'm sure the manager has that as his target. As such anything less than promotion will be a failure.

If we're challenging for most of the season I'll be happy. Can't see us finishing higher than 3rd, but you never know.
Squad is progressing well- looks an improvement on last seasons and would be great if we can keep getting a stronger pool of players each season and build ourselves up a bit before taking that next step.

Obviously gutted at the way last season ended but this way at least we can keep getting stronger rather than starting from scratch again after a single season in Division 1 getting humped every week.

At the very least we should be looking to be on the same level as a team like Brechin- consistently challenging every year for play-offs and promotion.
If we can do that and keep progressing then we'd have a great chance of staying in Division 1 if we do get promoted. Got to look at it realistically, even the best Alloa teams havent really managed to avoid relegation from the division above, so its a tall order.

Would also like to see more locals turn up to watch the team (although this is a problem with most teams)- even though the team were winning last season some of the attendances at The Recs were really poor.

Winning the title would make up for the massive disappointment of last season. However the league is obviously stronger so I'd settle for a playoff place. I can only see Livi, Ayr, Brechin and ourselves being title challengers so this is the least we should be aiming for. It's been too long since we've been in the 1st.

Would also be nice to have a decent Scottish Cup run. Seems an eternity since the Hibs quarter final.

I'd agree that I'd like to see us play some more entertaining football this season. Even some of the wins last season were like pulling teeth.

We obviously got pretty close to having a very good season last time around but at times the football was really poor to watch. This time around if the football does not get any more entertaining then I'll be looking for promotion in order to justify our utilitarian approch. If we can play a style of football that's a bit more pleasing on the eye then I'll be happy if we can mount a good challenge for the play-offs.

The good thing is AM recgnizes that we struggled to create chances in games last season, having spoken to him a few weeks ago.

The signings of Smith and MacDonald were made with the intention of giving us more creativity, hopefully with Jinky and Bomber also coming back that should give us enough quality to approach home games in particular with a different game plan.

I am happy with the way we play away from home, it worked great on a number of occassions last season, particularly in the 3-0 gubbing of the Bino's. We did however struggle in games at home to Arbroath, Stenny, Dumbarton sides we should have been looking to beat.

I don't expect us to play like Barcelona now, but at least we should see a side with a bit more of an attacking edge to it.

The challange this season is to prove that last years high placing was not a flash in the pan. As stated in an earlier post , we need to consolodate our position as a team challanging and certainly making the play offs at the top of the table.

We had some great results last season and we only missed out on the title due to the injury problems and players turning out for us when they were nowhere near fit.

In all honestly football is a results buisness and I don't subscribe to this about us playing with style etc. As long as we win I don't give a f**k. Thats the most important factor first and foremost.

We achieved 65 points and had some great results at places that we usually got shafted like Stirling, Dunbarton,Methil etc. We had a fantastic record against our fellow challangers and indeed neither Cowden or Stirling managed to beat us in the leauge games. I would settle for a season like last season again.

You are right Owen football is a results driven business, but some of our games last season were horrible to watch.

Fact of the matter is, if we play like we did last season we will not win the league. We need to be playing more attacking football, particularly at home as stated earlier. We cannot afford to lose at home to Dumbarton, Forfar etc, if we play the style we did last seasons then we are liable to lose matches like this.

I am confident that we now have the players to play a more attack minded game.

Hard financial times in the Scottish leagues just now. The old order is changing and teams that for many years were the strongest are now in the mix with the rest. How long until there is a part-time team in the SPL? Even in the Second Division there may be a few surprises this season. Suspect there will be a lot of cancelling-out with every team beating the others and somebody like Forfar or Stenny finding themselves near the top and wondering how they got there.
Been very impressed with the rebuilding by AM this summer and a long time since we've had a hard-working pro like Darren Smith in the side. Always worth leaving a warm house on a cold winter's day to watch him perform. From the games so far, it will take 5 or 6 more before the bumps are knocked off and the team really clicks, but am very hopeful for the months ahead.
