Cowdenbeath at the Recs
2010 May 1
Last game of the (regular) season.

Cowdenbeath beat Stirling over 94 minutes midweek - sadly the game lasted 95! Yhey may be deflated and / or may rest some players ahead of the playoffs.

Your thoughts?

A game we must go into believing we can still win the title if we win. As someone said a previous thread already, that last thing we want is to not win this game and then see the Binos beaten at Brechin. Although Brechin have nothing to play for that may work in their favour. They ARE a good team, and they ARE in the playoffs so they cannot afford to piss about. Having said all that it will be interesting to see exactly what team AM picks. I suspect he wont risk anyone who isn't 100% (Bomber, Brown, Scott?) and that we may see one of Craig or Jinky get a start to freshen things up.

Clearly Cowden are liable to rest several key players, but I don't think that means they will be easy to beat.

Personally I will be going to the game in a positive mind an dlooking on it as a chance to win the title. Looking forward to it. I hope it's the final game of the season.

Heart tells me that we can win this with a bit of luck and a final big push. Head tells me when we have hit the buffers before there is no quick fix and it takes several games to turn things around.
Would like to see Hay recalled from his loan for this game and young Thomson brought back as well. They would bring a burst of fresh energy to the side that won't be found in the present squad.
Will give them all my support anyway.

Why does everyone think Cowden will rest players on Saturday? If they beat us then they jump us and the second leg of the play off will be at Cowden instead of the Recs if it remains as it is at the moment.

Still think we are good enough to win the game but expect to play a full strength Cowden

Probably being a pessmist again but I just cant see this game meaning anything as Brechin wont beat Stirling, especially without McAllister and McLean. Brian and printer are bang on though in saying that it would feel horrible if Brechin did somehow win and Alloa failed to get 3 points against Cowden. We have nothing to lose so just need to get stick in and ensure we finish up with 65 points. If nothing else it would be good to stop the rot before the play-offs.

Bottom line here is we have to go for the win, as it gives us the chance of the title, assuming the Bino's slip up, big hope here on both sides.
Cowden now are in the play offs and will rest their stars (hopefully) and if we are resigned to having lost the title, then we may well do the same.
I'd be happy if we went for it, just as we did against St Mirren a few years back, but got relegated as Ross County also won that day.
And as Donald said, at least we would finish with our heads held high.

Personally, I would like to go as far as extra time in the final playoff but no further. It has been the most exciting season I can remember and I would love the same again next year, maybe then going up with more financial clout to buy and pay players who could compete in the full time division.
If you look at the results for this season we have only won a few games by more than one goal and an awfull lot of games when we only scored one if at all. We have stuggled to get where we are and I don't fancy a year of misery next season. Also attendances would fall away leaving the club worse off than if we stay where we are.
"Make haste slowly" and when we go up lets be financialy sound enough to stay there.

Confirmation in the press today that Irn-Bru are laying on a helicopter to deliver the trophy to Brechin or the Recs at 5pm.
So if the unlikely happens - don't go home early!

Must admit I didn't expect to see a performance like that today. Pressing upfield from the start with Walker and Buist driving them forward when they looked like going back to their old ways. Looks like they've all sat down and had a long chat about the past 3 games and decided to change things. Can only dream what might have been if they'd faced Brechin and Dumbarton like this.
Things started to happen when Grant was replaced by Hay. John Grant is a disappointment just now; puts in a lot of work, but his passing is awful and he's not bossing his patch. Hay doesn't waste much and isn't afraid to have a pop.
Very hopeful for the first part of the play-offs if they stick to this script.

I'll try not to sound like I'm gloating....

I'm amazed we won the league, I said at the time Walker's injury time goal meant it was Alloa's title but as we all know its a funny old game.....

All of you must be hurting but overall, regardless what happens, Alloa have had an excellent season.

Part of me would love to see local derbies in the 1st Division next season as I don't think thats happened since league reconstruction. The other part, well I'm sure you understand ;-)

Really disapointed over the peice.. we did not really get going until the hour mark which is not good enough however yesterday was all about Stirling V Brechin it did not matter too much what was going on at the Recs.

Some players need to take a long hard look at themselves and stop trying to be big time Charlies, this is a league that you need to put in some effort and some of them wont do it for a reason only known to them.

Gary Carrol not good enough, Mark Gilhaney mercenary, Chris Craig WTF, Declan McAvoy on yesterdays performance looked the youth player he really is and should go back to Hamilton as quick as this campaign is finished, John Grant beginning to look like he needs to move to give him another challenge, Jamie Hay flatters to deceive,David Gormley is clueless!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all know who will step up to the plate over the next few games, Mark Brown, Townsley, McLune, Wilson and Prunty and good luck to them but for the rest either give it your all to a great club or f***k off and join the other clubs that you think are better.
