The ref has no choice other than to award a retake if either the keeper comes off his line or one or more defenders encroach. That's the laws. Whether the ball goes miles over the bar or not is irrelevant. I was too far away to know what happened here but I suspect that one or more Alloa defenders went into the box before the kick was taken. If so this is the completely the Alloa players' fault. In fact if I was the manager I would be furious with them as it could have cost us the game and there is nothing to be gained from them doing this.
As to the media coverage generally. Most of it is complete sh*te by people who don't know the laws and who have a story to sell. This week the coverage of the high profile case of Scott Brown's red card was ridiculous. Big game, player guilty of violent conduct, player gets red card - where's the story in that?
Fair enough Printer. But we have been the victim of some refereeing howlers this season.
1. Noble brought down in the box yesterday. Free kick given outside the area by a ref a long way away. Poor decision. 2.Prunty gets an excellent goal chopped off against Arbroath following an overhead kick. Poor call again. 3.Stonewall pen not given against East Fife at the Recs during the 0-0 game when Gillhaney tripped in the box. Good goal disallowed that day also by Ian Brines who had an absolute shocker.
The refs are just not at the races.
