After a brief spell in the 1st, Ayr United returned to the 2nd division to celebrate their centenary. Ayr are often regarded as sleeping giants, with a great potential - but like other clubs, they have been beset by financial problems. They had hoped to move to a new stadium - with the current stadium being sold to Barrat Homes. Due to the economic downturn, this seems to be on hold.
