Airdrie United

Airdrie United owes its origin to the demise of the former club Airdrieonians - who ran into severe financial difficulties. Clydebank were at the time homeless and their owners were looking for a buyer. The club was bought, relocated to Airdrie, and strips similar to the old Airdrie ones were adopted.

Airdrie United return to the second division after a brief spell in the first division. Like a number of other clubs, they have been beset by financial problems - these problems may hinder their promotion hopes.

At the time of writing, their interim manager is former Wasp Jimmy Boyle.

Their ground - which now seems to be called New Broomfield, was the location of Alloa's victory in the Challenge Cup final in 1999. It has a 3G artificial surface - similar to that at Recreation Park.
